Beckett's Waiting for Godot is the most influential play of the 20th century — two tramps waiting for someone who never comes, talking to pass the time. His minimalist prose and drama stripped language to its barest essentials.
He won the Nobel Prize in 1969 and donated the money. He fought in the French Resistance during WWII.
