Andre-Marie Ampere was a mathematical prodigy who founded the science of electrodynamics—establishing the mathematical laws governing electric currents and magnetic fields. The ampere, the unit of electric current, is named after him. He also coined the term 'cybernetics.'
His life was marked by tragedy: his father was guillotined during the Terror, and his first wife died young. He was personally troubled but scientifically brilliant.
