Sri Aurobindo was a Cambridge-educated Indian revolutionary who was imprisoned for sedition, had a transformative spiritual experience in jail, and withdrew from politics to Pondicherry, where he spent the rest of his life developing Integral Yoga — a synthesis aimed at transforming human consciousness and accelerating spiritual evolution.
He founded the Sri Aurobindo Ashram (continued by 'The Mother,' Mirra Alfassa) and wrote The Life Divine, Savitri (a 24,000-line epic poem), and extensive commentary.
