Meher Baba was an Indian spiritual master who observed silence from 1925 until his death in 1969 — 44 years of communication only through an alphabet board and hand gestures. He claimed to be the Avatar (God in human form) and attracted followers worldwide, including Pete Townshend of The Who.
His phrase 'Don't worry, be happy' inspired Bobby McFerrin's hit song.
