William III of Orange

William of Orange was invited by English Protestant nobles to invade England and overthrow the Catholic James II. The 'Glorious Revolution' of 1688 was bloodless in England (less so in Ireland and Scotland). William and his wife Mary ruled jointly, and the Bill of Rights they accepted established parliamentary supremacy—the foundation of British constitutional monarchy.
