Cory Aquino was a housewife who became a revolutionary symbol. After her husband Benigno was assassinated on the Manila airport tarmac in 1983, she ran for president against dictator Ferdinand Marcos. The People Power Revolution of 1986—millions of Filipinos blocking tanks with prayers and flowers—ousted Marcos and installed Aquino as president.
