Pol Pot led the Khmer Rouge regime that emptied Cambodia's cities, abolished money, banned religion, and murdered 2 million people (25% of the population) through execution, starvation, and forced labor in the 'Killing Fields.' He was overthrown by Vietnam in 1979 but lived in jungle exile until 1998.
