Lee Kuan Yew was the founding father and first Prime Minister of Singapore (1959-1990), who transformed a tiny, resource-poor city-state expelled from Malaysia into one of the richest, cleanest, safest, and most efficient countries in the world. Singapore went from Third World to First in one generation.
He achieved this through authoritarian pragmatism—strict laws (including caning, death penalty for drug trafficking, and the famous ban on chewing gum), meritocratic governance, heavy investment in education, and strategic positioning as a financial and shipping hub. He was brilliant, ruthless, and spectacularly successful.
