Barack Obama
1961– · American (Honolulu / Chicago) · 21st Century America
Known for: 44th President—first African American president, ACA, killed bin Laden, governed with preternatural cool
Obama went from community organizer to state senator to US Senator to President of the United States in 12 years—the most meteoric rise in American political history. He was the first Black president, passed the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), ordered the raid that killed Osama bin Laden, and governed through the Great Recession.
His presidency was marked by partisan gridlock, drone warfare, the rise of ISIS, and the beginning of the political polarization that defines current American politics. He left office with 59% approval and has become the elder statesman of the Democratic Party.
