Sadat made the most dramatic diplomatic move of the 20th century: flying to Jerusalem in 1977 to address the Israeli Knesset, then signing the Camp David Accords with Begin and Carter. For this, he won the Nobel Peace Prize—and was assassinated by Islamic extremists within his own military in 1981.
