Qianlong Emperor
1711–1799 · Chinese (Qing Dynasty) · Qing Dynasty, 18th Century China
Known for: Presided over Qing China at its territorial and cultural peak—the longest-lived emperor in Chinese history
Qianlong ruled China for 60 years (officially abdicating after 60 years to not exceed his grandfather Kangxi's 61-year reign, but ruling from behind the scenes for three more). He expanded the empire to its maximum extent, commissioned vast encyclopedias, and presided over China's cultural golden age. His late reign was marred by corruption under his favorite Heshen.
