Piye marched north from Nubia and conquered all of Egypt, founding the 25th Dynasty—the so-called 'Black Pharaohs.' He was a devout worshiper of Amun who considered himself the true protector of Egyptian religion and culture. His victory stele at Gebel Barkal is one of the most detailed military accounts from ancient Africa.
