Kangxi became emperor at age 7 and ruled for 61 years—the longest reign in Chinese history. He defeated the Three Feudatories rebellion, conquered Taiwan, expanded into Tibet and Mongolia, and created one of the most prosperous empires in the world.
He was an intellectual polymath who studied mathematics, science, cartography, and music with Jesuit missionaries. He commissioned the Kangxi Dictionary (still referenced today) and a massive encyclopedia. He personally led military campaigns into his 60s.
