Cyrus built the Achaemenid Empire—the largest the world had seen—stretching from the Aegean to Central Asia. He conquered the Median, Lydian, and Babylonian empires through military genius, political cunning, and remarkable mercy toward the conquered.
He freed the Jews from Babylonian captivity and issued the Cyrus Cylinder—often called the first declaration of human rights. He respected local customs, religions, and administrators throughout his empire.
He was killed in battle against the Massagetae under Queen Tomyris, who allegedly dunked his severed head in blood, saying 'Drink your fill.' Despite this end, he was mourned across his empire.
