Brian Boru unified most of Ireland under his rule and defeated the Vikings at the Battle of Clontarf in 1014—ending Norse dominance in Ireland. He was killed in his tent after the battle, reportedly by a fleeing Viking warrior. He was 73 years old and had spent 40 years fighting his way to the High Kingship.
