Judge and court physician in Córdoba who produced Aristotle commentaries so authoritative Aquinas called him 'The Commentator.' He defended philosophy against Al-Ghazali with The Incoherence of the Incoherence.

Temporarily exiled, books burned for his views, later rehabilitated. His work became the foundation for scholastic philosophy in Europe.
