At the height of his career as Baghdad's most prestigious scholar, Al-Ghazali suffered a breakdown so severe he couldn't speak or eat. He abandoned everything to become a wandering Sufi mystic.

He returned to write The Incoherence of the Philosophers and Revival of the Religious Sciences. Often called the most influential Muslim after Muhammad.
