Osman I was the minor Turkish tribal leader who laid the foundation for what would become one of history's greatest empires. Through military skill, diplomacy, and strategic vision, he expanded his small beylik on the Byzantine frontier into a state that would eventually conquer Constantinople and rule three continents for over 600 years.
He was reportedly just, charismatic, and skilled at attracting followers from diverse backgrounds. He conducted raids against the weakening Byzantine frontier and gradually expanded his territory. His dream—of a tree growing from his body to shade the entire world—became the founding myth of the Ottoman Empire.
