Napoleon Bonaparte was a Corsican artillery officer who became Emperor of France, won over 60 battles, and reshaped the political map of Europe. He was the most consequential military and political figure between Caesar and Hitler. His campaigns from Austerlitz to Waterloo remain the gold standard of military study.
He combined military genius with administrative brilliance—the Napoleonic Code remains the basis of civil law in dozens of countries. He slept 3-4 hours nightly, dictated thousands of letters, and micromanaged an empire that stretched from Spain to Moscow. His fatal flaw: he couldn't stop. Russia, Spain, and finally Waterloo destroyed him.
