Percy Fawcett
1867–~1925 · British (Devon) · Edwardian Era
Known for: Explored the Amazon and vanished in 1925 while searching for 'Z,' a legendary lost city—inspiring Indiana Jones and one of exploration's greatest mysteries
Fawcett was a Royal Geographical Society surveyor who spent years mapping the Amazon's most remote regions, surviving encounters with hostile indigenous peoples, giant anacondas, and every tropical disease imaginable.
He became obsessed with finding a lost civilization he called 'Z' in the Mato Grosso region of Brazil. In 1925, he entered the jungle with his son Jack and friend Raleigh Rimell. They were never seen again. Over 100 people have died searching for them.
