Toulouse-Lautrec was born into aristocracy but fractured both legs in childhood (possibly due to a genetic bone disorder), leaving him with a normal torso and stunted legs. He abandoned high society for Montmartre, sketching prostitutes, dancers, and performers with empathetic precision.
He was witty, generous, alcoholic, and self-deprecating. He invented extravagant cocktails and drank himself to death at 36. His draftsmanship was extraordinary.
