Lennon co-led the Beatles from boy-band to psychedelic pioneers, co-writing the most prolific songwriting output in pop history with McCartney. After the Beatles' breakup, he became a peace activist, recorded Imagine, and was murdered by a fan in 1980.
He was acerbic, political, insecure, and capable of both cruelty and extraordinary tenderness. 'Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans.'
