Marley brought reggae to the world and spread Rastafari globally. He survived an assassination attempt in 1976 and performed two days later. He died of melanoma at 36 from a toe injury he refused to treat on religious grounds.
He was born to a white father and Black mother, grew up in Kingston's Trenchtown ghetto, and became the Third World's first true musical superstar.
