Warhol silkscreened consumer products and celebrities into fine art, predicting the age of mass media, celebrity worship, and content creation decades before the internet. His Factory was a salon for musicians, drag queens, and junkies.
He survived a near-fatal shooting by Valerie Solanas in 1968. He was a devout Byzantine Catholic, a compulsive hoarder, and concealed his depth behind a facade of superficiality. 'In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes.'
